We Believe the World Needs More Women's Voices

Emily Barrosse has spent forty years in publishing, including serving as a Vice President and Editor in Chief at McGraw Hill.

During her career, she worked with hundreds of authors and helped bring countless books into the world. She also observed a persistent imbalance: women possessed no shortage of stories worth telling, though the path to publication was not always equally accommodating.

In August 2020, Emily founded Bold Story Press, a hybrid publisher dedicated to amplifying women’s voices and helping women publish exceptional books. Since opening its doors, Bold Story Press has published 42 books and signed contracts for 15 additional titles.

Our mission is straightforward, even if publishing rarely is: to help women write the books only they could write, and to put them into the world where they belong. That's the work. Forty-two books and counting, each one a story that might otherwise have stayed untold.

Our Impact

Since launching in August 2020, Bold Story Press has:

• Published 42 books with 15 additional titles under contract

• Presented more than 75 free publishing webinars drawing more than 3,000 registrants

• Provided hundreds of free, one-on-one publishing consultations, helping authors find their right path forward, even when the path was never with us

Many of those conversations were with authors who never became our clients. That may seem unusual.

We don't think so.

Sometimes the right path is traditional publishing. Sometimes it's self-publishing. Sometimes it's hybrid publishing. Our goal has always been to help authors make informed decisions, not simply to persuade them to work with us.

Our Philosophy

We're neither a traditional publisher nor a self-publishing platform.

We're a hybrid publisher.

Our authors receive professional editorial, design, and production support while retaining ownership of their work, earning substantially higher royalties than traditional publishing typically offers. Every book is available print-on-demand through Ingram's international network, reaching more than 39,000 retailers and libraries worldwide.

We publish selectively because we'd rather publish fewer books exceptionally well than many books indifferently.
