Real work at a real publishing house, one semester.
A virtual publishing and marketing internship for American University students, this fall.
The Role
Bold Story Press is a boutique hybrid publisher that helps women share their stories with the world. Xander Press is our companion imprint. You'll work directly on real projects our small team will use.
Visual Refresh & Branding
Help build (or find and customize) templates carrying the BSP and Xander Press visual identity, then move our most-used files and website content over to them.
Work on Our Monthly Newsletter
Help plan issues, draft or collect content, and prepare drafts in Squarespace alongside our team.
Business Development Research
Build lists: entrepreneurs to reach out to, webinar partner organizations, referral sources, and podcasts worth pitching.
Social & Launch Support
Draft and schedule posts across platforms and help promote our free publishing webinars to new audiences.
Why It's Worth Your Semester
Most marketing internships put you in a silo. Here, you'll work on real projects our small team will use, from brand and visual identity work to the research that shapes what we do next.
Who We're Looking For
No publishing background required. What matters more:
- Currently enrolled at American University, any year or major
- Comfortable writing for social platforms
- Some comfort with design tools (Canva or similar) is a plus
- Detail-oriented, especially with scheduling and deadlines
- Genuine interest in books, publishing, and marketing
- Able to coordinate with your program for academic credit
How to Apply
Fall placements are limited to keep the internship hands-on. Here's how it works:
Send your resume
A short note on why you're interested is more useful to us than a cover letter.
Interview
Given the number of applicants we expect, this will be a real interview, not just a quick chat, so come ready to talk through your interest and fit.
Confirm credit
We'll coordinate directly with your program's internship coordinator.
